Below is a list of organizations that focus on Puget Sound and its environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adopt-A-Stream Foundation<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Adopt-A-Stream Foundation is to identify and address degraded and stream and wetland ecosystems, while providing educational programs and publications that teach people to become stewards of their watersheds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audubon Society<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Audubon\u2019s mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the earth\u2019s biological diversity. Our national network of community-based nature centers and chapters, scientific and educational programs, and advocacy on behalf of areas sustaining important bird populations, engage millions of people of all ages and backgrounds in positive conservation experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audubon Society – Pilchuck Chapter \/ Snohomish<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A chapter of the National Audubon Society, for Snohomish County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birds – COASST<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Citizen-science program established to identify the carcasses of marine birds found on beaches along the coasts of Washington, Alaska, Oregon, and California. The purpose is to establish baseline data of bird populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Falcon Research Group<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Falcon Research Group (FRG) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the support of field research, public education, and the conservation of raptors. For over 20 years, the Falcon Research Group has been conducting raptor research in Western Washington, USA, and throughout the world. Hawk watching classes have given hundreds of people an insight into the lives of raptors. Thousands of Seattle citizens have followed the activities of local peregrines on the Washington Mutual tower via their web camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marine Resources Committee – Snohomish County<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The committee involves citizens and leaders of our community directly in future discussions, decisions and restoration commitments; enabling and assisting all segments of the public to protect and preserve the waters and their counties as interested stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nature Conservancy of Washington<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Mission Statement: to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.  The Nature Conservancy owns tidelands in the north end of Port Susan and offers periodic tours and bird walks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington NatureMapping Program<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The goal is to deep common animals common and to maintain our quality of life. Approach is to train individuals to become aware of their natural resources and to provide the tools to inventory and monitor their resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northwest Straits Initiative<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As authorized by Congress the purpose is to coordinate county-based Marine Resources Committees, and to conduct regional projects such as derelict fishing gear and toxic creosote log removal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ocean Conservancy<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Restore sustainable American fisheries; protect wildlife from human impacts; conserve special ocean places; reform government for better ocean stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ORCA NETWORK<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The group is dedicated to raising awareness about the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats. Report or view whale sightings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Padilla Bay national Estuarine Research Reserve<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Padilla Bay national Estuarine Research Reserve is managed by the Washington State Department of Ecology under the National Estuarine Research Reserve System established by NOAA. The staff at Breazeale Interpretive Center offer education, research, and stewardship activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People For Puget Sound<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This citizen\u2019s group works to protect and restore the health of Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits through education and action. Their vision is a clean and healthy Sound, teeming with fish and wildlife, cared for by people who live here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Port Townsend Marine Science Center<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This is an educational and scientific organization promoting coastal education and conservation.  They are the Puget Sound lead on assessing marine plastics in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puget Sound Nearshore Partnership<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The mission of the Nearshore Partnership is to restore and protect the nearshore habitat of Puget Sound for the benefit of the biological resources and the integrity of the ecosystem, including the functions and natural processes of the basin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Puget Sound Partnership<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Puget Sound Partnership is implementing Governor Christine Gregoire\u2019s Puget Sound Initiative \u2013 an effort to clean up Puget Sound by 2020.  This state agency works with citizens, governments, tribes, scientists and businesses to restore and protect Puget Sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seattle Aquarium<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The aquarium provides various educational events for children and adults. The Seattle Aquarium is located on Pier 59 on the Waterfront at: 1483 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98101, (206) 386-4300.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shore Stewards<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Started by Island County Beach Watchers this WSU Extension program helps shoreline community residents and businesses protect Puget Sound through property decision.  Each Shore Steward adopts up to 10 Guidelines for Shoreline living and receives free information from WSU Extension to inform those decisions.  Shore Stewards protect the waters and wildlife of Puget Sound, one property at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sound Salmon Solutions<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Originally known as the Stilly-Snohomish Fisheries Enhancement Task Force, SSS in a nonprofit organization that supports salmon recovery efforts in the Stillaguamish, Snohomish, and South Island County watersheds by connecting people to their watersheds through interactive education, hands-on stewardship and state-of-the-art habitat restoration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Whale Museum<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Museum goal is promoting stewardship of whales and the Salish Sea ecosystem for over 25 years through education and research (located in Friday Harbor).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington Native Plant Society<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Washington Native Plant Society is dedicated to the preservation, conservation, and study of the native plants of Washington and to the education of the public on the values of native flora and its habitat.\u00a0 The Central Puget Sound Chapter covers South Snohomish County and King County and the Salal Chapter serves Skagit, Island, and Northern Snohomish counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington State Department of Ecology<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Reaching the goals of a healthy, sustainable Puget Sound, now and forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WA Dept. of Ecology – Shorelands and Environmental Assistance Program Home<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n
