The WSU Food Systems Program<\/a> has grown from historical roots of what was the Small Farms Program, built on many years of dedicated support for Washington Farmers. We now venture to broaden our objectives, taking a holistic approach to supporting the Washington food system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Small farms are important to Washington State, with significant numbers of them found in every county. Like other small businesses, small farms can be valuable community assets, generating income and employment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WSU Extension Specialists provide education and information on innovative crop production methods, pest identification and control, and new seed varieties to local farmers through field tours, workshops, seminars, and pesticide courses.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n\n

Small Livestock Owners<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Spokane City Municipal Code<\/a> requires owners of small domestic animals, including small livestock (swine, goats, and sheep, but excluding chickens) to obtain an animal keeping certification prior to keeping the animal. A 2-hour video certification course is available by appointment only<\/strong> through the WSU Spokane County Extension office. Cost is $15 per person. Payment must in the form of a check.<\/p>\n\n\n
