YA4-H! is a WSU\/4-H leadership program that empowers teens to make a difference in their community by exploring and working to address local health issues.<br aria-hidden=\"true\">&nbsp;<br aria-hidden=\"true\">The YA4-H! has three topics of concern that the teens will focus on: 1) food and nutrition, 2) exercise-movement, and 3) mental wellness. Teen interns will work within the YA4-H! club, teaming with WSU faculty, staff, and 4-H volunteers to learn about these important issues, brainstorm local solutions, and then take action by completing a teen-led community project. Teen interns will receive training in a career-building curriculum called <em>Teens as Teachers<\/em>, which will give them the skills necessary in order to work with our youth in area schools. We will be teaching\/using curriculum that focuses on nutrition and exercise and\/or substance use prevention.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\r\n\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--sidebar-right\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Curriculum We Use:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <em>Choose Health: Food, Fun and Fitness<\/em> curriculum prepares you with the knowledge to help guide our elementary age youth in Spokane County in making healthier decisions in regard to their fitness, nutrition and mental wellbeing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <em>Learn, Grow, Eat, Go!<\/em> curriculum is the new research-based, evidence-based curriculum project of the International Junior Master Gardener\u00ae Program. LGEG grows good kids through an interdisciplinary program combining academic achievement, gardening, nutrient-dense food experiences, physical activity, and school &amp; family engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The National curriculum, <em>Health Rocks! Inspired to Be Substance Free<\/em> will provide knowledge regarding healthy and trusting relationships and ideas for saying &#8220;No!&#8221; to substances such as tobacco, alcohol, and drugs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the beginning we will meet every other week after school via Zoom. In January, we will have a day-long training in the Teens as Teachers and CHFFF curriculum.&nbsp; We begin teaching in after-school programs February-June.
