Preparing for Winter-Worm & Yard Waste Composting

Dirt Works Demonstration Garden

We invite you to come and learn how to turn your yard and food scraps into a rich soil amendment for your gardens. At the workshop you will learn:

  • Benefits and challenges of yard waste composting
  • Pros and cons of bin styles
  • How to create a yard waste pile from scratch and prepare it for winter
  • Benefits and challenges of worm composting
  • How to set-up a worm bin from scratch
  • How to care and “put your worms to bed” for the winter
  • Using the finished product (worm castings)

Handouts and follow-up resources will be available.

Meet at the gazebo inside the garden. Please dress for the weather as this workshop will be outside. Bring garden gloves if you want to participate in the “hands-on” portion of the workshop.
