DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the re-opening of our composting area at Dirt Works Demonstration Garden.This is a black tie event\, but come as you are; we will provide the black ties.Refreshments * Garden Tour * Free Raffle * Ribbon Cutting\n\nThrough a grant from the Nisqually Tribe\, MRC volunteers coordinated a project to update and improve the composting area for education and functionality.\n\nA few of the improvements:The area was cleared\, leveled and covered with landscape cloth to make it more maneuverable (thanks to MRC volunteers Tracy and Bill and The 5 Yard Line of Olympia).A new mural on the side of the shed showing the anatomy of a worm with good and bad bugs (credit to Master Gardener volunteer Annie B. who designed and painted it).Canvas tarps hung on the chain link fence to help keep the blackberries at bay (credit to MRC volunteers Tracy and Bill\, and Master Gardener volunteer Terry).A new fence surrounding a two unit compost staging area (credit to Master Gardener volunteer Tia B. and her husband).Hose access moved to new location to make it more accessible (credit Master Gardener volunteers Terry W. and Dave S.)\n\nNone of this would be possible without the motivated team of Thurston County Master Recycler Composter and WSU Thurston County Extension Master Gardener volunteers that serve together to maintain Dirt Works for everyone to enjoy.\nFunding for this project is through a grant awarded by the Nisqually Tribe. DESCRIPTION:Join WSU Extension Thurston County Master Gardener volunteers to learn about Firewise Plants and techniques to increase your home garden’s fire resistance and resilience. Attendees will learn about the different fire wise zones\, plant selections\, and help install plants into the new Zone 1 demonstration plot at Dirt Works. Please dress for the weather\, bring your gloves\, and water. Shareable snacks are welcome! \nImportant Information:\nAnyone\, 10 years old and older\, is welcome to attend and participate.  A completed and signed non-volunteer waiver is required to participate\, and forms will be available. \nBe advised that there is a baseball tournament scheduled for the same day so parking will be tight.  As always\, parking at Yauger Park\, where Dirt Works Demonstration Garden is located\, is first come first serve. \nLocation:\nDirt Works is located at 530 Alta Street SW\, Olympia WA 98502 \nDirections: From the East\, take Hwy 101 to the Black Lake Blvd. exit. Turn right off the ramp but stay in your left lane so you can turn left onto Cooper Point Road. Follow Cooper Point Road until you reach Capital Mall Drive SW.  Turn Left.  Follow Capital Mall Drive until you reach Alta street. Turn right and follow the road into Yauger Park. Dirt Works garden is at the end of the parking lot. \nFrom the West\, take Hwy 101 to the Black Lake Blvd. Exit.  Turn Left on Black Lake Blvd and go approximately 0.2 miles to Cooper Point Road. Turn Left.   Go approximately half a mile to Capital Mall Drive SW.  Turn Left.  Travel approximately 100 yards from the corner and turn right onto Alta street. Follow the road into Yauger Park. Dirt Works garden is located at the end of the parking lot.

SUMMARY:Lawn Alternatives Workshop & Service Party
DESCRIPTION:Join WSU Thurston County Master Gardener volunteers as they install a creative display of lawn alternatives at the Dirt Works Demonstration Garden. Attendees will learn about different options that provide excellent ground cover\, lower maintenance\, support pollinators\, and look terrific. You will support the installation by planting seeds\, transplanting certain species from other places in the garden\, and have a chance to ask questions about techniques\, plant species\, and more. Please dress appropriately for the weather\, bring gloves\, sunscreen\, and water. Shared snacks are welcome. \nImportant Information:\nAnyone\, 10 years old and older\, is welcome to attend and participate.  A completed and signed non-volunteer waiver is required to participate\, and forms will be available. \nBe advised that there is a baseball tournament scheduled for the same day so parking will be tight.  As always\, parking at Yauger Park\, where Dirt Works Demonstration Garden is located\, is first come first serve. \nLocation:\nDirt Works is located at 530 Alta Street SW\, Olympia WA 98502 \nDirections: From the East\, take Hwy 101 to the Black Lake Blvd. exit. Turn right off the ramp but stay in your left lane so you can turn left onto Cooper Point Road. Follow Cooper Point Road until you reach Capital Mall Drive SW.  Turn Left.  Follow Capital Mall Drive until you reach Alta street. Turn right and follow the road into Yauger Park. Dirt Works garden is at the end of the parking lot. \nFrom the West\, take Hwy 101 to the Black Lake Blvd. Exit.  Turn Left on Black Lake Blvd and go approximately 0.2 miles to Cooper Point Road. Turn Left.   Go approximately half a mile to Capital Mall Drive SW.  Turn Left.  Travel approximately 100 yards from the corner and turn right onto Alta street. Follow the road into Yauger Park. Dirt Works garden is located at the end of the parking lot.
