This event is now entirely remote– complete the registration process\, and then email alisonn@piercecd.org to receive the remote meeting address. This is an annual gathering to network regional growers and researchers\, share information on local cover crop successes and coordinate research interests and needs. See below for this year’s roundtable agenda\, and join us to share\, learn\, and find inspiration for using cover crops for the 2020 season! \nARRIVAL AND SIGN-IN: \n9:00-9:15 am\n• Welcome\, introductions and goals for the meeting\n• Review details for interacting via Zoom\nPRESENTATION PORTION:\nRegional research reports\n9:15-10:45 am \n \nEconomics of Cover Crops\nNick Andrews from OSU will discuss OSU’s work on the economics of cover crops and plant-available nitrogen. He will also give a Western Cover Crop Council update. \nCover Crop Variety Trials\nDoug Collins from WSU Puyallup will discuss the fall and summer cover crop variety trials work he is completing. Nick Andrews has also been doing variety trials in Oregon and will be sharing highlights. \nRegional farmer presentation – April Thatcher\, April Joy Farm\n10:45 am – 11:30 am\nApril Thatcher has been farming since 2009 at April Joy Farm in Ridgefield\, WA. In 2017 she received a multi-year grant to study soil health in the context of her operation\, and serves on the board of the Organic Farming Research Foundation. April will explain the role cover crops have played on her diversified farm as part of her soil health plan. \nROUNDTABLE PORTION:\nRoundtable focus: Farmer input for on-farm research opportunities\n11:30-12:15 pm \nThe new Western States Cover Crop Council has received a grant to facilitate on-farm cover crop use\, evaluation\, and data sharing in our region. WSU and OSU are looking for farmer input as they design farm trials for this project and other on-farm cover crop research opportunities. Doug Collins and Nick Andrews will outline potential research directions for their projects and what input from farmers is needed. Due to the cancellation of the in person roundtable we will be using a Zoom poll as an opportunity for farmers to contribute research ideas and questions and ensure the effort is relevant to regional cover cropping needs.
