Thurston County 4-H Policy on Substitute Animals – In the event that a 4-H member\u2019s project animal gets sick, injured, or passes away and can no longer be exhibited at the Thurston County Fair the 4-H Office will consider allowing a substitute animal if this form is submitted to the 4-H Office explaining the circumstances that lead to the situation. The 4-H Office cannot guarantee that all requests will be approved. Some requests may be approved for county-level exhibition only. 4-H members with multiple project animals, for example more than one rabbit already entered in the fair, the member would be expected to use one of their other animals already entered rather than submitting a late fair entry for another new animal. Fair Superintendents and 4-H Leaders are not to make substitutions without consulting the 4-H Office first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, for the Horse Project only<\/strong> \u2013 The Horse Contest Guide states \u201cCounties have the option to use an appeal board or variance committee process to determine if an animal can be replaced in the case of death, severe injury, or unsafe behavior. A successful appeal may show at the county level but will not be allowed to exhibit at state fair.”<\/p>\n\n\n
