{"id":18,"date":"2013-10-30T15:48:08","date_gmt":"2013-10-30T22:48:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/wahkiakum\/?page_id=18"},"modified":"2021-05-14T15:35:13","modified_gmt":"2021-05-14T22:35:13","slug":"natural-resources","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/wahkiakum\/natural-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Marine &amp; Forest Resources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WSU Wahkiakum County Extension brings university-based research and expertise to our county in forest and marine resources.<\/p>\n<p>WSU Wahkiakum County Extension coordinates the <strong>Wahkiakum County Marine Resource Committee (MRC).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MRC\u2019s are volunteer groups in each county along Washington\u2019s coast, and were created by the Washington State Legislature to promote collaboration and citizen involvement in local marine resource management and stewardship.\u00a0The Wahkiakum County Commissioners passed\u00a0Resolution No. 125-10 on September 27, 2010 establishing the Wahkiakum County Marine Resources Committee (WCMRC). The Commissioners\u00a0appointed\u00a0thirteen volunteer board members ensuring balanced representation from local government, local residents, scientific experts, affected economic interests, affected recreational interests, and environmental and conservation interests.\u00a0\u00a0The goal of the MRC program is to understand, steward, and restore the marine and estuarine ecological processes of the Washington coast and the lower Columbia River Estuary in support of ecosystem health, sustainable marine resource based livelihoods, cultural integrity, and coastal communities. This program is funded with\u00a0a grant from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to fund local projects. Since its initiation in 2010, the Wahkiakum County MRC has\u00a0approved and funded several local projects, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/wahkiakum\/natural-resources\/mrc-brochure\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-192\">MRC Brochure<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/wahkiakum\/natural-resources\/2014-fish-and-seafood-guide\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-186\">2014 Fish and Seafood Guide<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Columbia River Fisheries Exhibit<\/li>\n<li>Student tours and job shadowing at fish hatcheries<\/li>\n<li>Trail completion and invasive species signage at Skamokawa Vista Park<\/li>\n<li>Dredging assessments of Wahkiakum County tributaries<\/li>\n<li>Columbia River noxious weed survey by students<\/li>\n<li>Water quality monitoring in Columbia River and tributaries<\/li>\n<li>Monitoring and observing\u00a0Seal and Sea Lion activity on the Columbia River<\/li>\n<li>Installation of fish cleaning stations at Elochoman Slough Marina, Skamokawa Vista Park, County Line Park, and Svenson Boat launch<\/li>\n<li>Fish Preservation Workshops<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WSU Extension also has many statewide research-based publications and workshops for forest owners. \u00a0Watch this website and the local newspaper for announcements of event dates and registration information.<\/p>\n<p>[\/textblock][\/column][\/row]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WSU Wahkiakum County Extension brings university-based research and expertise to our county in forest and marine resources.
