PUBLIC PRESENTATION

Public Presentations gives youth a chance to learn how to prepare, practice and deliver presentations in front of an audience through a set of competitions held in April and May for the Walla Walla County 4-H program.  Youth must participate in the April competition in order to compete in May. Presentations should teach a skill, concept, or principle related to a project that the member is enrolled in and can be a demonstration, an illustrated talk or other prepared speech. Participants are encouraged to use life-like models, miniature models, and/or illustrative materials as visual aids. Blue ribbon winners may advance to the State 4-H Fair competition!

Illustrated Talks

Illustrated presentations guide an audience through the talk with the use of posters, photos, models, or other visual aids. The goal is to show how to do something but a finished product is not needed.

Demonstrations and PowerPoint Illustrated Talks

These talks use technology to help show an audience how to do a task. The goal of a demonstration is to have a finished product by explaining the task from step 1 all the way to the final step. A PowerPoint Illustrated talk follows the guidelines of an Illustrated talk.

Topic and Persuasive Speech

These are prepared speeches that do not incorporate any visual aids into the presentation. Topic speeches may teach, entertain, or inform an audience on a subject. The goal of a persuasive speech is to convince an audience to accept the presenter’s view point.
