<span property=\"itemListElement\" typeof=\"ListItem\"><a property=\"item\" typeof=\"WebPage\" title=\"Go to News.\" href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/wallawalla\/news\/\" class=\"post-root post post-post\" aria-current=\"page\"><span property=\"name\">News<\/span><\/a><meta property=\"position\" content=\"3\"><\/span><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wsu-row wsu-row--sidebar-right\" >\r\n    \n<div class=\"wsu-column\"  style=\"\">\r\n\t\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Welcome to Walla Walla County 4-H!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4-H is an informal, practical, learn-by-doing educational program for youth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>4-H develops <strong>skills<\/strong> by helping young people acquire self-discipline, confidence, the ability to set goals, and a sense of responsibility. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4-H builds <strong>citizenship<\/strong> by providing youth with real-world experience, by showing them the importance of volunteering, and by encouraging them to take action in their communities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4-H promotes <strong>sportsmanship<\/strong> by offering the opportunity to learn about fair and ethical competition at the county, state and national levels. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4-H <strong>opens doors to the future<\/strong> by introducing 4-Hers to a variety of activities that can lead to careers in agriculture, business, education, family and consumer sciences, medicine, natural resources, range management, wildlife biology, and more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4-H&#8217;ers are:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2x<\/strong>&nbsp;more likely to feel positive about their wellbeing;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3x<\/strong>&nbsp;more likely to feel competent;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2x<\/strong>&nbsp;more likely to make healthier choices;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>2x&nbsp;<\/strong>more likely to participate in out-of-school-time science programs; Information\t\t\t<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What do 4-Hers do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anything! In 4-H youth learn-by-doing. 4-H is a fun, educational program, which teaches life skills through fun &amp; creativity.&nbsp; &nbsp;4-H offers a wide variety of projects and activities, including workshops, conferences, camps, community service projects, and leadership development opportunities for both youth and adults at the local, district, state, national, and international levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who oversees 4-H?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>4-H is the youth development program administered by the USDA &amp; the Land Grant University in each state.&nbsp;Washington State University Extension is the governing body in Washington State. The organization and management of 4-H Youth Development is a partnership between extension personnel, Walla Walla County staff, and volunteers.&nbsp;For more questions about joining 4-H, please contact WSU Extension, Walla Walla County, 328 West Poplar, Walla Walla, WA 99362 or call 509-524-2685.
