This is a summary of weather data since January 1, 2020 until July 12, 2020.<\/p>\n<h3>Growing Degree Days<\/h3>\n<p>Growing degree days (GDD) is one metric to consider when looking at air temperature comparison across years. GDD calculates cumulative values based on a specific temperature threshold (in this case base 50F) and is used to predict crop and pest development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some highlights:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>As of 7\/12\/2020 the County accumulated just <em>37%<\/em> of the average GDD between 2009-2019.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Accumulated GDD between 4\/15\/20 and 5\/15\/20 accounted for <em>40%<\/em> of the total GDD to date. Between 2009-2019, April accounted, on average, for only <em>15%<\/em> of accumulated GDD by 7\/12.\u00a0<\/b><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Impacts<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>The lack of GDD slowed crop development particularly early-season fruit and vegetables and lowered brix levels in fruit levels.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>The slow GDD accumulation should technically slow arthropod development especially as we enter into red raspberry harvest; although in some cases this has not been true in part because of the warm weather in April and the particular life cycle of the arthropod.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Monthly Summary of Accumulated Growing Degree Days, by Year and for July, by Year.
