and &#8216;sinks&#8217; as they relate to CO<sub>2<\/sub>, use an indicator solution (BTB) to reveal the presence of CO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0and understand the differences between animal and fossil fuel sources of global CO<sub>2<\/sub>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science Skills:\u00a0<\/strong>Collecting Data, Measuring, Summarizing<\/p>\n<p><strong>Life Skills:<\/strong>\u00a0Critical thinking, wise use of resources<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation Activities<br \/>\n<\/strong>Review the activity linked in \u201cExplore More.\u201d\u00a0 Collect materials or check to see if they can be borrowed from your Extension Office.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 2 : Measuring Your Carbon Footprint<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Use online tools to make an estimation of personal carbon footprint<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Science Skills:\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Measure, Use Numbers and Tools, Interpret Findings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Preparation Activities:<\/strong><br \/>\nReview\u00a0 Carbon Calculators in Explore More and chose one to use with group<\/p>\n<p>There are several good websites in Explore More and tools to help you estimate your carbon footprint, and they each vary depending on how accurate you want to be. \u00a0Why not compare your answer between sites?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activity 3:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/whatcom.wsu.edu\/4-h\/nrs\/weatherwatchers\/documents\/Climate_Survey.pdf\">Climate Change Survey<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nHave the youth explore public opinion based on the perceptions of locals regarding climate and weather. Ask the youth to make sure that at least \u00bd of their interviewees are over 40 years old. It will be important youth can adequately explain the difference between weather and climate before delivering this survey to others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ask the Right Questions:<\/strong><br \/>\nHave the team pool their results. Decide how to compile the responses. Are there patterns in responses? Do variables of age, occupation or time in the area appear to affect perceptions?
