How Funds are Distributed<\/h4>\n

One of the goals of 4-H Council is to support youth learning and leadership opportunities in the county and also around the state and country. To that end there are numerous scholarships available to\u00a04-Hers on an annual basis. Unless otherwise stated, these funds are generally provided on a reimbursement basis, and accessed by submitting the Assistance Application at the 4-H Council meeting before the event<\/strong>. (You may submit for an event any time prior to the event in the current 4-H Year.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Please note: Applying for assistance grants is not the same as registering for the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Funds are generally limited to a cap amount that is a portion of the total cost of an event<\/strong>. In the case that there are several applicants for the same event, the total available is divided by the number of applicants. The bulk of these scholarships are intended to support over-all leadership programs in the 4-H. Requests specific to a project area (Horse, Dairy, Livestock, Science, etc.)<\/em> should check with county project advisors before requesting council assistance.<\/p>\n

Council meetings are the first Monday evening of October, December, February, April, June and August.<\/p>\n

Whatcom County 4-H College Scholarship ($600)

\nDue: April 1st
\nThe Purpose of the Whatcom 4-H Council Scholarship is to provide incentives for older youth to want to be in 4-H; to reward older 4-H youth for their achievement in 4-H and in the community; and to encourage youth to continue their education past high school.<\/p>\n

\u201cPay It Forward\u201d Education Clinic Grants (4 @ $25)<\/strong>

\nDoes your club want to fund a special training to teach others fitting and showing, or vet science skills? Do you want to host an invitational for other clubs? These funds are to help your club attend or host any clinic you need.<\/p>\n

\nYouth needing assistance attending national events and unable to find other project support may apply for these funds.<\/p>\n

Teen Rally ($40\/youth $120\/yr.)<\/strong>
\nLocation Varies

\nDue: October
\nTeen Rally is a district-wide event and usually a teen\u2019s first foray into the larger world of 4-H. Similar to Leader\u2019s Forum, but with a lot more physical activity, teens get a chance to meet, network, learn about leadership and try lots of interesting projects. State Teen Ambassadors are elected at Teen Rally.<\/p>\n

National 4-H Conference ($300\/yr.)<\/strong>

\nRecommended for State Ambassadors or outstanding 4-H youth of Promise, this is a national 4-H Leadership event for teens.<\/p>\n

Teen Summit ($40\/youth $120\/yr.)<\/strong>
\nLocation Varies
\nForm needed: Assistance Application<\/a>\u00a0(pdf)<\/em>
\nDue: February
\nA statewide (out of county)<\/em> teen leadership training for all teens, especially those wishing to become County Teen Ambassadors. (A good first step for those aiming for State Ambassadorship.)<\/em> Activities focus on developing skills in goal setting, meeting facilitation, communication, planning and leading activities, youth\/adult partnerships, cultural awareness, time management, and public speaking\/improv.<\/p>\n

Know Your Government, (up to $250\/per request, $1,000\/yr.)<\/strong>
\nOlympia, WA

\nDue: February
\nKYG is a teen government experience unlike any other. High school-aged teens are required to attend 5 planning meetings in the months leading up to the event in February. They will focus on one of four aspects of governance, participate in mock governance in the State Capitol, and have an opportunity to meet local and state representatives.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Council Fundraiser Seed Money ($650\/yr)<\/strong>
\nForm needed: Council Fundraiser<\/a>\u00a0(pdf)<\/em>
\nDue: February
\nCouncil will support clubs with seed money if those events are intended to fundraise more money to support Council (these scholarships, etc.)<\/em>. The event must show a sound plan that will at least \u201cbreak-even\u201d using the money from this grant. Additional funds made from the fundraiser the first year are split between Council and the planning club. A successful fundraiser should be able to capitalize on community partners and donations in order to triple the amount of the initial grant. This is a discretionary award.<\/p>\n

State 4-H Forum Registration for Voting Delegates ($480\/yr.)<\/strong>

\nDue: June
\nState Leader\u2019s Forum is a great place to meet leaders from all over the state, to learn new and interesting things and to be a part of the voting body of the State 4-H Program. (The Washington State 4-H Council has their annual meeting to vote on recommendations to State policies on the last day of Forum.)<\/em> In order to qualify for this support the attending leaders must be willing to participate as voting delegates in the Council Meeting, but is full registration coverage for the entire forum. (Hotels and travel are the leader\u2019s responsibility.)<\/em><\/p>\n

Teen Conference ($100\/youth, $500\/yr.)<\/strong>
\nPullman, WA

\nDue: June
\nThe teen conference gives teens a chance to try campus life on the WSU main campus. A weekend of networking, workshops, dorm life, cafeteria food, and most importantly, career planning make this an impactful week.<\/p>\n

Chaperone Subsidies – ($650\/yr.)<\/strong>

\nDue: Dates vary
\nWe recognize that young people would not have the opportunities to participate in the larger world of 4-H without chaperones helping them get to the events, and being a part of the \u201csounding board\u201d of their learning experiences. Chaperones are required at a ratio of about 1:8 youth attending. Council has set aside subsidies to pay event registrations for chaperones. Unless specified otherwise by the event, room and travel are the responsibility of the chaperone.<\/p>\n

Western Regional Leaders Forum – ($300\/yr.)<\/strong>

\nDue: Dates vary
\nWestern Regional Leaders Forum is for 4-H Leaders and usually takes place outside of Washington. Since dates and locations vary annually, interested leaders should research this information in advance and prepare their application accordingly.<\/p>\n
