Here at the WSU Whatcom County Extension office we are leading the development of a Rural Health Promotion for Washington State!<\/p>\n
Our research program has three broad categories:<\/p>\n

- Research regarding neighborhood determinants of health and rurality:
\n<\/strong>Rural disparities of health outcomes; neighborhood development; neighborhood characteristics associated with reductions of stress and the consequent biological responses; and rural identity.<\/li>\n- Resource needs assessments for rural residents and project development:
\n<\/strong>Prevention coalition implementation; FarmStress; AgrAbility; chronic pain management resources; and QPR suicide prevention.<\/li>\n- Research toward developing the emerging Rural Neighborhoods program:
\n<\/strong>Capacity building of neighborhood\/community resilience; development of a rural neighborhood scale; and co-founding the WSU Extension Rural Health Community of Practice (CoP)<\/em>\u00a0to launch in 2024.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\nshawna.beese@wsu.edu<\/a><\/p>\nI serve as an assistant professor of rural health promotion for the Washington State University Extension through the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences. In my faculty role, my research foci fall into three categories: a) basic research regarding neighborhood determinants of health and rurality, b) concrete resources for Whatcom rural residents, and c) applied research toward the development of my emerging Rural Neighborhoods\u00a0<\/em>program.<\/p>\n
