WSU is dedicated to promoting and educating all areas of horticulture.<\/p>\n<p>Such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>food crops<\/li>\n<li>native plants<\/li>\n<li>perennials<\/li>\n<li>rain gardens<\/li>\n<li>herbs<\/li>\n<li>weeds<\/li>\n<li>cover crops<\/li>\n<li>sustainable landscaping<\/li>\n<li>soil ecology, etc<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h6>Here are some areas supported by WSU Extension and the WSU Master Gardeners of Whatcom County.<\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>\u2022 Sustainable Landscaping &amp; Stewardship Gardening<\/strong><br \/>\nWSU Extension teaches techniques in implementing water-efficient gardening practices, using native plantings, using shade trees, wind breaks, natural hedgerows, buffers and screens to aid in the prevention of runoff and pollution while enhancing wildlife habitat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/whatcom\/hg\/we-grow\/\">We Grow Garden<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nThis urban garden is made possible by a partnership between Washington State University Extension, WSU Whatcom County Master Gardener Program, Northwest Youth Services, and the city of Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/extension.wsu.edu\/whatcom\/hg\/youth\/\">Youth Gardening<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nChildren\u2019s Story Garden, Youth programs<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/wp-extension\/uploads\/sites\/2093\/2021\/03\/SoilTestingHomeGardeners.pdf\">Soil Health &amp; Composting<\/a><\/strong><br \/>\nHealthy soil is the key factor for healthy plants and proper soil management protects our waterways. Composting increases soil\u2019s ability to retain water, hold nutrients &amp; helps to decreases runoff. Runoff pollutes water by carrying soil, fertilizers and pesticides to nearby streams.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\"><strong>\u2022 Sustainable Food Gardening Practices<\/strong><br \/>\nGrowing your own food is a joy and provides your family with healthy, organic vegetables.
