Yakima County Master Gardeners Program Coordinator
Claudia received her BS degree and worked in a clinical lab as a microbiologist for 10 years. She then received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Science at San Francisco State University in 1978 and was offered an Associate Professor position at Central Washington University where she became the Program Director for the Clinical Laboratory Science Program and taught at the two Yakima Hospitals.
Claudia has had a lifelong passion for gardening and after retiring she joined the Master Gardener Program in 2009. She was asked to become the Program Coordinator in 2011. She became a Yakima County employee in 2018 and continues her many duties which include overseeing approximately 120 veteran volunteers and recruiting & guiding new trainees each year. She is involved in coordinating the formal class lecture series to assure science based horticulture information is presented which in turn can be shared with our many community outreach venues such as: the Diagnostic Clinic & Farmer’s Market; Demonstration, Heirloom & Community Gardens; Youth programs; Greenhouse & Plant Sale; Speakers Bureau; Writer’s Guild that produce gardening articles for the Herald & Yakima Magazine and much more.
Claudia and her husband own and operate Konnowac Vineyard with 24 acres of wine grapes that are sold to many local wineries.
