In this project, youth discover the fascinating world of these creatures and their unique conservation needs.&nbsp; Youth will collect data in the field to contribute to citizen science efforts while learning the roles amphibians and reptiles play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Youth will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Learn what amphibians and reptiles are native to their region and understand their role in the ecosystem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand threats to the survival of native amphibians and reptiles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct field research as citizen scientists that can be used by field biologists studying amphibian and reptile populations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"650\" height=\"470\" src=\"https:\/\/wpcdn.web.wsu.edu\/extension\/uploads\/sites\/40\/2014\/11\/Amphibian.gif\" alt=\"Cartoon image of a frog, tadpoles, a toad, and a salamander beside a list of traits of amphibians.\" class=\"wp-image-4462\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><em>Amphibians:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><em>live on land and in water<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>webbed feet<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>breathe with lungs and gills<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>cold blooded<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>moist smooth skin (no hair or fur)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>4 legs (sometimes none)<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>lay many eggs<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4-H Amphibian Curriculum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/marketplace.unl.edu\/default\/amphibans-and-you.html\">Amphibians &amp; You, Student Journal<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Encourage youth in your community to discover native amphibians and their value to the ecosystem. Students will learn how to identify native amphibians and conduct field research.
