SUMMARY:Virtual Question\, Persuade\, Refer Training WSU CARES
DESCRIPTION:QPR is a suicide prevention program designed to teach individuals to recognize the warning signs of suicide\, how to engage with at-risk-of-suicide individuals\, and connect them to the appropriate resources. \nQPR originated in Washington State with the help of Spokane Mental Health and the creator Paul Quinnett.  QPR provides a simple and effective framework for Suicide prevention that can be taught to individuals from various backgrounds. This training plays a crucial role in saving lives and promoting mental health awareness and support. \nThis course is offered free to adults in our community by Washington State University Extension in cooperation with School’s Out Washington thanks to grant funding from Washington State Health Care Authority. STARS Credit is available\, but you do not need to be a teacher to attend. Pre-registration is required at the link below. \n

DESCRIPTION:Upcoming (Statewide via Zoom) training that Anthony Gromko will be facilitating in Spanish. It is free to join. We partner with School’s Out WA to offer this training\, so you sign up there\, but you do not have to be associated with a school to enroll. As usual\, it will be two hours of pre-work followed by a Zoom from 9:30-3:30. We also anticipate holding in-person Spanish and English sessions on Orcas Island this spring.

SUMMARY:In-Person (Arlington) Youth Mental Health First Aid WSU CARES
DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth\, reviews typical adolescent development\, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety\, depression\, substance use\, disorders in which psychosis may occur\, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD)\, and eating disorders. \nThis course is offered free to adults in our community thanks to a cooperative effort between Stilly Valley Health Connections\, Washington State Health Care Authority\, and WSU C.A.R.E.S..
