Linda Gilkeson, Ph. D. in Entomology and British Columbia Master Gardener program instructor wrote, “Disease roundup: Long story, short: There is a huge amount of fungus amongus due to the perfect conditions we have had all spring for spread of fungi (and bacterial pathogens, too).”

Join us on Saturday July 9th at 10:00 am for the 5th Street Second Saturday Walk where we will be prepared to address these garden woes. Additionally, this July we also anticipate at minimum a need to revisit best watering practices with drier weather ahead, how to protect fruit and produce from bird damage (strawberries and blueberries are finally ripening) and timing for fall and winter harvesting. Hope to see you in the garden! Clallam County Master Gardeners (from left to right) Audreen Williams, Laurel Moulton, and Bob Cain will lead an educational walk through the Fifth Street Community Garden in Port Angeles on Saturday, July 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. They will focus on the fungi and bacterial pathogens that our spring weather has brought on.

The 5th Street Garden is located across from the Clallam Courthouse at 328 East 5th Street. These Garden Walks are held on the 2nd Saturday of the month from April through September at 10 am.
