Low Stress Cattle Handling Seminars

The way cattle are handled not only affects worker safety, but it also can dramatically impact animal health and profit margins of an operation. In addition, cattle care and handling is a top concern of consumers and has been a hot topic in the media. Cattle producers, managers, and caretakers can demonstrate their commitment to animal care and consumer concerns by implementing cattle handling techniques to ensure both human and animal safety and health.  Cattle producers and managers who have implement low-stress handling techniques into their daily care of animals, reported reduced morbidity, mortality, and more profitable production.
Five low-stress cattle workshops for cattle producers with be offered from April to May 2015.  Workshops will include presentations and hands-on demonstrations.

April 16, 2015, Moses Lake WA: Low-stress cattle handling techniques for cow/calf producers and management practices for gathering, sorting, processing, loading, and transporting cattle.  Instructor will be Dr. Tom Noffsinger. Time 9:30-3:30.
April 17, 2015, Moses Lake, WA: Implementation of good stockmanship practices on the farm and ranch. Expansion of April 16th workshop, covering how to effectively implement low-stress techniques during various handling practices and horsemanship skills to promote handler safety and proper cattle handling. Individuals will also receive BQA certification. The instructors will be Mr. Curt Pate and Dr. Tom Noffsinger. Time 9:30-3:30.
May 19, 2015, Eltopia, WA: Low-stress cattle handling techniques for cattle stocker/feeders and management practices for receiving, sorting, processing, loading, and transporting cattle.  Program will be provided in both English and Spanish. Instructors will be Dr. Tom Noffsinger, DVM, and Jose Valles. Time 9:30-10:30.
May 21, 2015, Eltopia, WA: Implementation of good stockmanship practices in cattle stocker/feeder operations. Expansion of May 20th workshop, covering cattle handling, stockmanship with horses and effective pen riding skills. Individuals will also receive BQA certification. The instructors will be Mr. Curt Pate, Mr. Ted Howard and Dr. Tom Noffsinger.  Time 9:30-10:30.
Youth Cattle Handling Seminar: Basic low-stress cattle handling techniques. Handling cattle to improve human and cattle safety. Will take place on one of the evenings—Either April 16 or May 21. Time 4:30-7:30 pm.
