February Minutes

In attendance: Sue Adams, Floy Ziegler, Caroline Vadino, Anita Mastin, Melinda, Wilkenson, Allysa Bowers (staff), Nancy Baskett (staff)

Meeting called to order at 7:05 pm.

Minutes from last meeting: Floy asked that they be corrected to show that the vote was to approve of Nancy advertising 4-H Scholarship on 4-H online. Floy moved to accept as corrected. Anita seconded.  Motion carries.

Sue read a thank you card from Lorelai Justice for the $500 grant to help her attend the National Livestock Judging.

Floy presented the treasurers report. It is noted that there is over $2000 in uncleared checks of which the majority are to clubs for their fair cookshack hours. It was decided that Floy will notify these clubs about cashing those checks and indicate that a date to do so will be set and if the checks have not cleared the bank by that date, the funds will be considered a donation to the fair support fund.

State Scholarship applications are due by March 15 and County applications are dur April1.

Sue addressed her desire to form some committees, but we need more attendance by members to do so. One committee would be revision of our Constitution. Floy felt that the main thing we should do is sperate out voting rules and put them in the by-laws where it would require less work to change them if we decided they needed changed.  She will send recommendations to Sue.  Another committee would be for fundraising. Office staff reported about a Muckleshoot Tribe Community Charity grant that can be applied for on a quarterly basis but is given to an entity only once a year. The Association could apply and the office could apply.  Another idea was to have a county 4-H T-shirt as a fundraiser.  Recommended that we all keep our eyes open for grant opportunities.

Melinda brought up the idea of utilizing the Expo Center to have an “interactive” event to defray the new cost of shavings for the barns at fair. Like a petting farm where the public could come and interact with the varied species of animals being raised by 4-H’ers. There could be demos by shooting sports and info areas for other projects such as photography, gardening etc. Melinda as talked with Rene’ at the Expo Center and she supports the idea.  There may not be enough time to do an event for offsetting this year’s expenses but can plan to do something in August.

Staff reported that there are Harry Burcalow grants available through state 4-H and they are given twice a year.  Applications are due Dec 1 or June 1.

It was discussed that we have better attendance when we meet in person so March meeting we be at the office.

Anita moved and Melinda seconded to adjourn. Motion carries.
