The WSU Extension Yakima County Master Gardener Program

Three Master Gardeners stand in front of an evergreen on a path covered in yellow and brown leaves. They are carrying large five-gallon buckets overflowing with flowers. There are two more buckets on the ground in front of them.

At about 120 strong, Yakima Master Gardeners are among the most active in our state. Last year as a group we contributed over 1,500 volunteer hours in venues including our plant-answer clinic, demonstration gardens, classes, symposia, speaking engagements, plant sale greenhouse operations, and more. We take our mission seriously: offering research-based information on sustainable gardening and communities. And we enjoy the interaction this affords us with citizens throughout Yakima County.

For further information about our activities over the past year, please visit our Coordinator’s report to the County Commissioners.

The WSU Master Gardener Program addresses important sociologic and environmental issues by teaching research-based horticulture information. We want people to have important skills and abilities that help mitigate challenges and to understand that everyone has a role to play in creating and sustaining healthy and resilient communities.
