Join 4-H

Welcome!

We’re so happy you’re interested in joining Washington 4-H!

4-H is happening in all 39 Washington Counties, as well as the Colville Reservation, administered by the local WSU Extension Office.

To Join 4-H:

  • Decide on your project(s)! There are numerous different project opportunities for 4-H members to participate in, and with self-determined projects, the opportunities can be endless! Check out our 4-H Project list.
  • Find a club! Work with your local WSU Extension 4-H office to find a club or start your own. Not all clubs offer all projects; the local office can determine if there is an existing club that offers leadership in a project you’re interested in. If you can’t find a club, you are welcome to start your own club!
  • Enroll in 4-H through 4-H Online after contacting your local Extension staff! WSU 4-H uses the 4-H Online enrollment system for all new and returning youth members and adult volunteers. Enrollment opens on October 1st each year.
  • Get involved and have fun! To get the most of your 4-H experience, attend meetings and events, and get involved.
  • Need help? Contact your local Extension Office.

Structure of a 4-H Club

A 4-H club is an organized group of youth and adult volunteer leaders that meet on a regular basis throughout the year to focus on a series of educational experiences.

Clubs are:

  • open to all youth starting at age 5 through those youth who have not yet reached their 19th birthday on October 1st of the current 4-H year;
  • designed to provide positive youth development and foster ongoing educational and leadership opportunities;
  • led by elected youth officers or youth leaders;
  • advised by certified 4-H volunteers who have been screened and trained to support youth development;
  • operated under written guidelines, constitutions, or bylaws approved by the youth leadership;
  • focused on a specific project or interest, or may offer a variety of topics for youth to experience;

Clubs must:

  • include at least 5 youth members from a minimum of 3 different families;
  • meet regularly, and organize a variety of activities including service learning projects, fundraising efforts, community outreach, and more. The sky is the limit! To find a club in your area, contact your local County Extension Office.
  • meet in a location agreed upon by the club, including homes, community centers, military installations, libraries, public housing sites, or schools;
  • submit a written program of work to the WSU Extension county office for each program year;
  • enroll any youth eligible for 4-H membership, regardless of race; sex/gender; sexual orientation; gender identity/expression; religion; age; color; creed; national or ethnic origin; physical, mental or sensory disability, including disability requiring the use of a trained service animal; or genetic information.
