4-H Online Enrollment

Information for New Members and Volunteers

If you are new to 4-H, contact your local Extension office before enrolling. 4-H staff can help you find a club and guide you during the enrollment process. Volunteers will work with 4-H staff to complete screening requirements before enrolling.

Enrollment opens yearly on October 1st and closes on July 31st. Some counties may have earlier enrollment deadlines.

Information for Returning Members and Volunteers

As a returning 4-H Youth Member or Volunteer, you have already completed the first steps of this guide. Skip to the Add a Member Record if you need to add a new member or volunteer, or Add an Enrollment Record or Reenroll as a Previously Enrolled Member if you need to complete the enrollment process.

New Members

Before enrolling, new 4-H Members and Volunteers will need to complete these steps:

  1. Create a Family profile
  2. Create your Member Record

Once you have created your Member Record, you will be given the option to enroll as a 4-H Youth Member or Certified 4-H Volunteer. See

Create a Family Profile

The first step to enrolling in 4-H Online is creating a family profile. If you have already created a family profile, skip to the next section.

  1. Visit 4-H Online
  2. Select “Don’t have an account”
  3. Select Washington from the “Select Your State” drop-down
  4. Select Washington 4-H Youth Development under “Select an Institution”
  5. Fill out the remainder of the form, including
    1. Email (this will be used for communication from 4-H)
    1. Family Name
    1. Mobile Phone Number
    1. Password (must contain a minimum of 10 characters, a capital letter, a number, and a symbol).
  6. Select “Create Account”
  7. Fill in your address information and select “Verify.” If you are prompted to choose an address, select the correct one.
  8. You’ll be taken to the Add Member screen. See the next section for those steps.

If you are met with a message stating “An account with this email address has already been found, please sign in or recover your password,” it means that the email already exists in the 4-H Online system. You’ll be taken back to the login screen. Contact your local Extension office if you have any questions.

Create a Member Record

A Member Record is a collection of personal information. You will create one member record for each member. Enrollment in 4-H requires creating an Enrollment Record each year, which will be covered in the next section.

  1. Select Add Member from the home screen of 4-H Online.
    1. If you just created your family profile, you’ll be taken to this screen automatically for your first member.
  2. Select 4-H under “Which program would you like to join?” and select “Next.”
  3. Fill in your personal information.
  4. “Number of Previous Years in Program” will appear after your birthdate is added. If this is your first year, put 0. If you have participated before, indicate those years here.
  5. Select “Next” to continue.
  6. Fill in the “About You” section, then select “Next” to continue.
  7. Indicate whether you are enrolling in 4-H (I want to join Washington State 4-H as a New or Returning Washington State 4-H Youth Member/Volunteer) or just participating in the program without enrolling (I want to participate in a Washington 4-H activity but do NOT want to join Washington State 4-H at this time.”
    • Note: Adults who are not enrolling as Certified 4-H Volunteers do not create member records in 4-H online.
  8. Select “Finish” to create the Member Record.
  9. If you selected the “I want to Join 4-H” option, you’ll be taken to the enrollment section automatically. If you selected “I want to participate,” you’ll be taken back to the member list without beginning the enrollment process.

The Enrollment Process

Enrolling as a Youth Member or Certified Volunteer

An approved enrollment is required to participate as a 4-H Member or Certified Volunteer. Enrollments must be completed each year. Non-enrolled members are classified as Participants.

An Enrollment Record consists of a variety of parts:

  1. Volunteer Types Selection (volunteers only)
  2. Club Selection
  3. Project Selection
  4. Questions
  5. Health Form
  6. Consents
  7. Payment
  8. Review and Submit

Parts of Your Enrollment

Volunteer Types Selection

Volunteers will select their volunteer roles. These roles are defined in the 4-H Policy and Procedure handbook. Follow these steps:

  1. Read the page message and select “Select Volunteer Types” to dismiss it.
  2. Select your Volunteer Type from the drop-down menu and select the “Add” button next to the role.
  3. To add additional roles, select “Select Volunteer Types” and repeat for each additional type and role.
    1. You may select more than one Type and Role.
  4. Once all Types and Roles have been added, select “Next.”

Club Selection

Youth Members and Club Volunteers are required to select a club. Volunteers who do not support a club do not need to add a club and can skip this section.

  1. Read the page message and select “Select Clubs” to dismiss it.
  2. Select your club’s county from the drop-down. The county drop-down will default to the Family County, so you may need to change it to find your club if you participate in a different county.
  3. Indicate the volunteer role, if applicable.
  4. Select “Add” to add the club to your list.
  5. Use the “Select Units” button to add additional clubs to your enrollment.
  6. Your Primary club will be noted. If you need to change your primary club designation, select the “Change to Primary” button.
  7. Select the garbage bin icon next to the club’s name to delete any unneeded clubs.
  8. Once all Clubs have been added, select “Next.”

Project Selection

Youth Members and Project Volunteers are required to select a project. Volunteers who do not support a project do not need to add a project and can skip this section.

  1. Read the page message and select “Select Projects” to dismiss it.
  2. Volunteers – indicate whether you are a Club- or County-based project volunteer (most volunteers are Club volunteers, not county).
  3. Use the club drop-down to select your club and update the projects offered list.
    1. The list will reflect what the club offers that you are eligible to sign up for.
  4. Select “Select” to add the project to your enrollment.
  5. Use “Select Projects” to add additional projects to your enrollment record.
  6. If you need to remove a project, select the garbage bin icon next to the project’s name to delete it.
  7. Once all Projects have been added, select “Next.”

Questions

Most of the questions here were asked during the creation of your Member Record and will automatically populate with your previous answers. You can make changes if needed.

  1. Read the page message and select “Show Questions” to dismiss it.
  2. Review the auto-populated answers for correctness, and answer any new questions as required.
  3. Once all questions have been answered, select “Next.”

Health Form

The Health Form collects basic health information. Please answer the questions accurately but concisely. Any fields marked “Yes” will ask for additional details; if you do not wish to share details, put “Prefer not to state” in the required text box.

  1. Read the page message and select “Show Health Form” to dismiss it.
  2. Read and answer each question.
  3. Read and sign the Medical Release form.
    1. Youth over the age of 18 may sign as both the Member and the Parent/Guardian.
  4. Once all questions have been answered, select “Next.”
