What a fun day of learning and collaborating!

22 youth from Lopez, Orcas, and San Juan Island gathered at the San Juan County Fairgrounds on Saturday, April 26th. Roughly 10 youth gave their demonstrations in a drop in event hosted by the Rising Star Bakers 4-H Club. Everyone had the chance to learn about and practice:

  • Educational Posters
  • Judging Contests
  • Dog Showmanship, Obedience, and Agility
  • Food Preservation
  • Poultry & Rabbit Care
  • Emergency Animal Care
  • LEGO & Robotics

Everyone involved had a great time and we would consider the first attempt at a youth fair a success. We look forward to hosting again next year, likely in February or March 2026. If you would like to join the planning team, please contact Clinton via email.

A huge thank you to all of the leaders and volunteers who helped make the event a success. Also thanks to the San Juan County Fairgrounds for allowing us to use the Marie Boe Building, Cousin Vinnie’s Pizza for coming in early to make lunch, and the Honeywell Charitable Foundation for their financial support.

Next learning opportunities

The San Juan Livestock club has tentatively scheduled a livestock showmanship clinic and early weigh-in day for June 14. There will also be Fair Entry support and education on that day if anyone needs assistance getting registered for fair.

Clinton is going to start working with club leaders to visit club meetings in May to help answer questions about fair, fair registration, and what to expect through the summer! He will also host some online sessions to help answer questions as we approach July.
