Spokane County Plant Sales

Wood chips in the demo garden

Each year, our Extension Master Gardeners put in thousands of volunteer hours to pull together a Garden Fair and Plant Sale. The goal is to give you a good selection of high-quality plants at reasonable prices. The plant sale is managed by our foundation and is the most significant fundraiser of the year. Proceeds are invested back into our educational outreach programs.

Time & place

Our spring Garden Fair and Plant Sale is held on the last Friday and Saturday in April. It is located in the parking lot of the Spokane Extension building.

222 N Havana St, Spokane, WA 99202

A “Pop-up Nursery”

The annual Master Gardener Plant Sale is a major undertaking by our volunteers. One of our Foundation’s key funding activities, it takes about eight months of effort to produce a plant sale that meets our standards. Read on for just a quick overview of what is involved.

Broad selection, locally grown

The process begins in the summer and fall with Master Gardeners starting or dividing native plants and perennials at home. Shortly after the new year, our volunteers are back at it, starting veggies from seed and timing our plantings so they will be the right size when the time comes for planting.
When we cannot grow it ourselves, we source plants from local nurseries to fill out our selection.

Pulling it all together

As we head into spring, Master Gardeners begin the process of assembling a “Pop-up Nursery” for just one weekend. This requires dozens of volunteers spending thousands of hours in training and set-up. Everything from building out and training on our cash registers, hauling and setting up displays, signage, parking assistance and much more. Master Gardener veterans train the interns so that the plant sale can carry on smoothly across the years.

Fall Bulb Sale

We also have an annual bulb sale in October. This is another opportunity to support our program and to purchase high-quality bulbs ready for fall planting. See our foundation website for more information.
