Washington State 4-H Hippology Contest

Registration through 4-H Online will open January 1. Registration deadline is April 3, 2026.
- The WA State 4-H Hippology Contest will be held Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake, WA.
- The State Contest is open to Intermediate and Senior 4-H Members who qualified at their county level to compete in this state level contest. Contestants may be selected by any procedure the county deems appropriate (e.g., a qualifying county event, application process, etc.).
- Registration is open in 4-H Online. Registration is required for each team member and coach. Registration deadline is April 1, 2026.
- The registration fee is $25 per contestant. This fee is payable by one check per team or county and is due at check in at the contest venue May 2. Checks should be made payable to WSU.
- Registration details and Hippology contest rules can be found on the WA State 4-H website on the WA State 4-H Horse page under the Contest Rules and Info Tab.
- Be sure to check out the Washington State Horse Contests Approved Sources for a list of materials that questions will be written from.
- NEW for 2026 – Scantron will be used to score all phases of the contest. Teams will be given detailed instruction and opportunity to practice with the form being used prior to the contest.

- Washington State 4-H Hippology Contest – May 2nd, Grant County Fairgrounds
- Washington State 4-H Horse Bowl Contest – May 3rd, Grant County Fairgrounds
- Washington State 4-H Equine Presentation Contest – May 16th, virtual on Zoom
New this year, an in-person “Introduction to Hippology” will be held simultaneously with the state contest. This is a fun, non-competitive introduction to Hippology. Come give it a try!
