Thank you for your interest in being a 4-H volunteer.
To the right you will find a registration form for the upcoming leader training opportunities. There will be two in person leader trainings at the Skagit Valley College Community Room; one on October 25th from 11:30 – 2:00 p.m. and one on November 8th from 11:30 to 2:00 p.m. Dates and times tentative. If those dates and times don’t work for you, please respond with your interest in attending a future training and Clinton will work to schedule additional sessions.
In order to attend one of these trainings you must have followed steps one through three of the volunteer application process:
- Complete and Submit the San Juan County 4-H Volunteer Application
- Online Volunteer Application – We will need at least two references from people who know you and can comment on your abilites to work with children. You will be asked to submit these names in the application.
- If you prefer a paper application, please contact our staff who can get you a paper copy.
- Complete an Interview with 4-H Staff
- 4-H Staff will work to schedule a time to complete a phone/zoom or in person interview with you
- We will then contact your references and send them link to return with information. Your references may also be contacted via phone.
- Complete a Background Screening
- 4-H Staff will reach out with options for completing a background screening. This is required regardless of other background screenings with other organizations
What we will cover in this training:
- WSU Put the Child First video – a 20 minute child protection video that is required of all staff and volunteers working with youth and vulnerable adults.
- 4-H Volunteer Orientation Modules – Five modules that go into information about volunteer roles & relationships, positive youth development, youth/adult partnerships, safe & inclusive environments, and learn by doing.
- WSU EP14 Protection and Safety of Minors Training – This training meets the requirements for all adults working with you in WSU programming. Participants will gain awareness of WSU Executive Policy 14 Protection and Safety of Minors and learn the policies related to working with youth.
- Optional: Washington State 4-H Financial Management – this training is for club leaders and treasurers who will be handling club finances.
