WSU San Juan County Extension and Summit planning partners invite proposals for presentations, panels, workshops, demonstrations, and interactive sessions for the 2027 San Juan Islands Agricultural Summit.
We’re seeking engaging sessions that share practical skills, research, local experience, and innovative ideas that strengthen agriculture and food systems in the San Juan Islands and beyond.
Summit Date: Saturday, February 27, 2027
Location: Camp Orkila, Orcas Island, Washington
Proposal Deadline: October 12, 2026 (submit using the online proposal form)
Why Submit?
Now in its 15th year, the Summit brings together more than 150 farmers, ranchers, researchers, educators, food businesses, land managers, and community partners to learn, exchange ideas, and build relationships.
This year’s theme, Cultivating Connections, celebrates the relationships that strengthen agriculture—from farmer-to-farmer learning and research partnerships to connections between farms, communities, and the land.
We welcome proposals that offer practical knowledge, lessons learned, research findings, demonstrations, or interactive learning experiences that attendees can apply in their own work.
Topics of Interest
We’re especially interested in collaborative, hands-on, and participatory sessions related to:
- Farmer-to-farmer learning, mentorship, and beginning farmer support
- Farm transfer, land access, and collaborative farming
- On-farm research and practical production techniques
- Soil health, water, climate resilience, and integrated pest management
- Seed systems, crop breeding, and variety trials
- Local food systems, value-added agriculture, and market development
- Farm-to-school, agritourism, and community engagement
- Indigenous foodways and traditional ecological knowledge
- Livestock, grazing, biodiversity, pollinators, and conservation
- Renewable energy, agrivoltaics, and farm infrastructure
Most of all, we’re looking for sessions that inspire conversation, build connections, and leave participants with practical ideas they can put to use.
