San Juan County 4-H Fair Dept 16 – Class A

4‑H Static Table Display – Detailed Guidelines

The Static Table Display class is a creative exhibit where members design a visually appealing and accurate table setting around a chosen theme. This is a display‑only class — the exhibitor does not complete a live activity or interview.

What the Display Must Include:

A Theme

Choose a clear theme such as:

  • Holiday dinner
  • Birthday celebration
  • Dinner for two
  • Cultural celebration
  • Picnic
  • Seasonal event
  • Afternoon tea

The theme should be obvious through your color choices, menu, centerpiece, and style of the place settings.

A Menu Card

Include a written menu representing a complete meal appropriate for the theme.
Your menu card must be:

  • Easy to read
  • Displayed where judges can see it
  • Matched logically to the occasion (example: a “Summer Picnic” menu should not include heavy winter foods)

Two Complete Place Settings

Set the table correctly for two people, including:

  • Dinner plate (and optional salad/dessert plates if appropriate)
  • Fork(s), knife, spoon(s) placed in correct order of use
  • Cup or glass
  • Napkin (folded or placed appropriately)
  • Optional items if your theme requires them (charger, soup bowl, specialty utensils)

Place‑setting accuracy matters.

A Centerpiece

Your centerpiece should:

  • Fit the theme
  • Be safe and stable
  • Not block guests’ view
  • Contain no open flames (battery candles OK)
  • Fit within your table space

Table Linens and Décor

Exhibitors provide their own tablecloth, runners, placemats, napkins, and decorative items.

Do not bring heirlooms or irreplaceable items.
The fair is not responsible for damage or loss.

Table Size

Your display must fit within a 30” × 36” (approximate) exhibition space – roughly 1/3rd of an 8 foot table.

Not Allowed

  • Open flames
  • Real or perishable foods
  • Alcohol or alcohol‑themed displays
  • Items extending beyond your assigned space

Exhibitor Responsibility

  • Exhibitor must complete all setup independently
  • No adult assistance allowed during arrangement
  • Exhibitors may re‑enter items year‑to‑year only if the design/theme is substantially different
