Youth Track at the 14th Annual Ag Summit

Building upon the momentum of the 2025 Youth Track pilot, we are so excited to dive deeper into agriculture with our county youth. Below you can find the outline of what to expect during the Youth Track this year. Registration is open to both 4-H members and non-4-H members. Registration is $30.00 per youth payable by cash or check.

Workshop Details

  • Milk Jug Seed Starting Partner: SJC Master Gardeners Youth will learn the fundamentals of season extension and sustainable gardening by repurposing milk jugs into miniature greenhouses. This hands-on workshop teaches seed biology and gives each participant a head start on their spring garden.
  • The Miracle of Life: Incubation & Chick Husbandry Partner: 4-H Leaders This session explores the avian life cycle through live chick hatching. Participants will learn the science of incubation, the stages of embryo development, and the essential care requirements (husbandry) for raising healthy poultry.
  • Worm Bins: Composting at Home Partner: Leslie Neal (Master Gardener & 4-H Leader) A deep dive into vermicomposting and soil health. Youth will discover how worms transform food scraps into “black gold” for gardens. Each participant will build and take home their own functional worm bin, complete with the materials needed to start composting immediately.
  • Farmer Stories & Community Gratitude Partner: Local SJC Farmer A local producer will share insights into the unique rewards and challenges of farming in the San Juans. Following the talk, youth will participate in a guided “Thank You” campaign, crafting and decorating personalized messages of appreciation to be delivered to farmers on their respective home islands.
