Protection and Safety of Minors (EP-14)

New Required Training

WSU now requires all faculty, staff, and volunteers who engage with youth to complete a mandatory training on Executive Policy 14:  Protection and Safety of Minors.

This includes all 4-H volunteers!

We will add to the FAQ’s below as needed.

How to Complete the Training:

The training for volunteers is housed at the Extension Foundation’s platform for training modules.  If you became a volunteer since 2019, you probably used this site to complete your basic training for 4-H volunteers.

Set Yourself Up for Success

We recommend that if you have not yet watched the 2024-2025 Annual 4-H Update, you do that first.  It’s only 20 minutes.  Ashley responds to some questions that might come up for you when you complete the EP-14 training.

Frequently Asked Questions:

It says I am 66% finished. What do I still need to do?

This seems to be a glitch in the system. You have probably completed the training, and it will show up on our end. Let us know, and we can confirm. snoco.4h@wsu.edu

How do I take the training:

The training for volunteers is housed at the Extension Foundation’s platform for training modules.  If you became a volunteer since 2019, you probably used this site to complete your basic training for 4-H volunteers.

It says I need a key code.  What is the key code?

EP14SN4H

I’m having trouble.  Can you give me more detailed instructions?

Yes!  More detailed instructions!

Also, we have offered some live Zoom sessions to walk volunteers through the training in groups. To request such a presentation, please contact snoco.4h@wsu.edu .

How long is the training?

There are three parts, each about 30 minutes, so you can do it in small pieces, if that suits you better.

How long do I have?

All 4-H volunteers must complete the training by June 1st of 2025.

Will I ever have to take it again?

You may eventually need to repeat this training, or another version of it. For the 2025-2026 4-H year, you must have completed the training one time previously in order for your volunteer enrollment to be approved.

How engaging are these modules?

That depends on your learning style!  If you like lecture-style trainings, it’s maybe three stars.  For those who prefer more interactive learning, hands-on, we estimate one star.  Bring snacks, beverages, notepad, whatever you need to stay focused.  If you would rate it differently, let us know!

If I’ve been a volunteer for 50 years, do I still have to complete this training?

Yes.

What do I do if I can’t get logged into the Extension Foundation platform?  I get a message saying I am using my account on another site to log in.  Whaaaaat???

Answer:  The only solution to this problem seems to be using a Google or Microsoft login to access the site.  These options are presented on the login page for the Extension Foundation.

If you do have to complete the training under something other than your own name, let us know, so that we can give you credit. snoco.4h@wsu.edu .
