Promoting Consumer Safety

WSU Extension’s Consumer Food Safety programs connect university research, technology, and community engagement to help individuals and families make safe, informed food choices. Through science-based education, trusted digital resources, and community partnerships, we translate research into practical knowledge that supports the safe buying, storing, preparing, preserving, and serving of food.

Our programs promote public health by reducing foodborne illness and food waste while strengthening food security, supporting local food systems, and encouraging healthy lifestyles. By providing accessible, evidence-based information and hands-on learning opportunities, we empower Washington residents to build confidence, self-reliance, and resilience in their homes and communities.
