Making good food choices, being physically active, following food safety practices, using effective parenting methods and healthy living are lifestyle decisions that influence the health and welfare of families and communities. Combined with financial management and making good consumer decisions, we are constantly bombarded with information.

WSU Chelan-Douglas Extension is committed to providing education and information to help individuals and families live healthfully. We provide accessible and reliable research-based information people can use to improve their lives, homes and businesses.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is a challenge in our busy world. We encourage you to check out our website and contact us if you need information or want to request a workshop for your group or organization.

Strengthening Families Program

The Strengthening Families Program is an opportunity for parents to learn ways to encourage good behavior using love and limits, making house rules and protecting against substance abuse.  Youth will develop their goals and dreams for the future and learn to deal with stress and peer pressure.

Why Should Our Family Participate?

This is an opportunity for your family to spend time together.  You will share family values, build better communication and support goals and dreams for you family.  Everyone will enjoy the evenings together starting with dinner and ending with celebrating success.

7 Weekly Sessions

During each sessions parent/ caregivers and youth meet in separate groups for the first hour.   Everyone is together the second hour to practice skills, play games, and complete family projects.

It teaches effective parenting during the transition and helps parents understand the critical role they play in helping children adjust to the changes.  The emphasis is on providing a nurturing, non- threatening environment for the child.
