WSDA Pesticide License Testing

Both the WSU Chelan & Douglas County Extension offices will proctor the WSDA Pesticide License exams in Wenatchee & Waterville.  Exam testing is available either paper and pencil or by computer. Testing is by appointment only. Contact your preferred location.

WSDA Computer Based Pesticide Testing Now Available!

We’re excited to announce that WSU Chelan & Douglas County Extension – now offers Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) computer-based testing – giving you access to more than 25 WSDA exams! This means a faster, more convenient experience with immediate results.

How to register for a computer-based exam:

  1. Visit WSDA and create an account.
  2. With your new account, you will submit an application to be approved by WSDA to test for yourself or employee. Make sure to select the correct license type and pay for the license application fee, if you have not already paid.
  3. Upon WSDA approval you will receive an email with a link back to www.metrosignup.com to schedule your exams at the most convenient testing center.
  4. Call Metro Institute for help with registering, applying or scheduling: 877-533-2900.
  5. If you cannot make your exam appointment for any reason, you may reschedule at no charge with at least 24 hours’ notice. No shows or late rescheduling will not be refunded.

Day of Testing

  • Arrive on time (late entry may be denied)
  • Bring valid government photo ID
  • Bring your Social Security card or know your number
  • Turn off cell phone or leave it in your vehicle
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • You will be provided with a simple calculator, pencil or pen and scratch paper which you must turn in after completing your exam.

Exams Offered

  • Private Applicator (Available in English & Spanish) – The Private Applicator license (annual fee $45.00) – Uses or supervises the use of any pesticide through chemigation equipment or restricted use pesticides on land or property owned or rented by them or their employer for the purpose of producing an agricultural commodity.
  • Limited Private Applicator – The Limited Private Applicator License (5-year license fee $40.00) – Use or supervise the use of restricted use herbicides on non-production agricultural land and in mixed rangeland-timer areas to control weeds designated for mandatory control. Only valid in Eastern Washington.
  • Rancher Private Applicator – The Rancher Private Applicator License (5-year license fee $45.00) – Use or supervise the use of restricted use herbicides on non-production agricultural land and in mixed rangland-timer areas to control weeds designated for mandatory control. May also use restricted use herbicides and rodenticides on limited production agricultural land where hay and grain are grown primarily for on-farm use. Only valid in Eastern Washington.

Exam Results

  • Your paper exam scores will be mailed directly to you from WSDA in 7–10 business days. Any question call WSDA Licensing – 877-301-4555 or email license@agr.wa.gov
  • Computer based exam scores will be available immediately after exam is completed.

Fees & Payment

You will not be able to test without payment.

  • Paper based testing fee: $25.00
  • Computer based testing fee: $58.00

  • Personal check, cashier’s check, or money order
  • Payable to WSDA
  • No cash, credit, or debit cards

Payments Accepted for Computer Based Testing:

  • PayPal, debit cards and all major credit cards are accepted.

Items Not Allowed in Testing Room:

Watches, fitness devices (e.g., Fitbits), cellphone, backpacks, purses, wallets, bags, sunglasses, food or drink, loose change, personal scratch paper, trading aids, pencils, pens, tissues, hats, earmuffs, scarfs, umbrellas, medications (inhalers or diabetic items are exceptions), personal laptops, keys, and work ID badges. This list is representative but is not exhaustive. Other items that are deemed to cause distraction to other examinees or put exam security at risk may be prohibited.
