2026 Washington Swine Information Day
February 6 @ 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Washington Swine Information Day offers targeted presentations designed to address the diverse needs of Pacific Northwest swine producers.
The morning session includes certification training for the National Pork Board’s Pork Quality Assurance Plus (PQA+) for adults and Youth for the Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) for youth. These certifications are increasingly required by pork packers and fairs. The session concludes with Katlyn Cain from the National Pork Board discussing best practices for receiving feeder pigs to ensure health and growth during transport and transition.
During the pork luncheon, Dr. Gordon Murdoch, Chair of WSU Animal Science, and the WSU Student Swine Cooperative will provide rapid updates from WSU Animal Sciences.
The afternoon session begins with Dr. Shannon Neibergs, WSU Extension Livestock Economist, addressing hog prices, grain trends, and farm economics for 2026. Katlyn Cain will then highlight the critical role of people and pigs in the future of the U.S. swine industry. Dr. Paul Kuber, WSU Regional Extension Specialist, will present on identifying market-ready pigs for various industry segments. The day concludes with Dr. Zach Turner and Mr. David Hecimovich sharing WSDA updates on swine health and animal traceability to meet state and federal requirements.
