Know Your Government 2016

Know Your Government is a 4-H sponsored event that allows students to learn about and participate in three branches of government with their peers from across the state. This year’s theme, Decision 2016, invites students to explore political parties, the nomination process and what it takes to develop a platform that represents the 4-H youth. Prior to the end of  the conference, the event delegation will elect a 4-H Governor.capitol-398x222

Students that are in high school (9th-12th grades) are invited to participate in the hands-on civic education event.

4-H Super Hero Academy

Bat Girl(s), Spiderman, Captain America, Super Cowgirl, and other super heroes took time out of their busy life saving schedules to attend the Super Hero Academy on Sunday 10/25. Super Heroes  took part in games, roping,  obstacle course, robotics, archery, tests of super powers and quad copter flying. The town of Cusick has never been so protected from the forces of evil as it was on Sunday. More than 30 youth and 4-H adults attended the academy. Thank you to all the adults who volunteered their time to make the event a success. Also thank you to the Pend Oreille County Library for the materials and display. (See all the photos from this event.) The event was intended to spark interest in the community for the next round of 4-H Tech Wizards. The current Tech Wizard program will end in November, and start up again for a years commitment in December. The goal of the program is to provide mentoring relationships, STEM activities and Fun. Learn more about the Tech Wizard Program here.

Tech Wizards Thank you!

The Tech Wizards program would like to extend sincere thanks to Nicole Seeber, and Jeff and Jessica Simon for their help with our Super Hero Academy on Sunday in Cusick. Also, many thanks to Nick Noga (Captain America), and Jeremy Noga (Spiderman)!  Contributions from everyone made the event very special.  Thank you again so much!  ~ Dixie Chichester

4-H Leader Council- (Every 4-H Club should be represented!)

What is Leader Council?  If you are a “registered” 4-H Leader in Pend Oreille County, then you are already a member. The purpose of the council is to maintain a spirit of friendship and helpful cooperation between leaders from all parts of the County. The Council is the connecting point with the WSU Extension Office, and serves an advisory role to 4-H Faculty and staff. It is also the part of the 4-H Organization that provides the opportunity for 4-H Leaders to share and grow their vision for what their 4-H Club and  what  the County 4-H Program can be. The 4-H Council is our mechanism for generating funds and reinvesting those funds back into the program. All other project councils are subcommittees of the 4-H Leader Council. Enjoy the fun and learning with other caring 4-H Adults!   The next meeting is October 27, at 6:30p at the PUD Building in Newport, WA. Please call the Extension Office with any questions on the 4-H Leader Council.

2016 County Budget

Pend Oreille County is currently in the planning stage for the 2016 County Budget. We have already delivered our presentation on the impacts of WSU Extension in Pend Oreille County. The electronic presentation was well received by County Commissioners and budget staff. Thank you for the part that you played in the successes of WSU Extension in Pend Oreille County. We will keep you informed on the budget process.

WA State 4-H Fair Board

There are currently three vacant positions on the WA State 4-H Fair Board…..two adult positions and one teen position.

Technically, one of the adult positions is from the southeast district and one is from the northeast district. The teen position is a westside position. The State 4-H Fair Board By-Laws state that all vacant positions will be filled on an at-large basis for a period of one year, thus applications will be accepted from the entire state.

Applications and a copy of the fair board trustee guidelines are available from the State 4-H Fair Board Office. Completed applications are due back by December 1.

Please pass this information on to your 4-H leaders who may be interested in this type of volunteer opportunity.

Best Regards,
