Seed Saving for Food Access

Learn the basics of seed saving for the backyard gardener! During the COVID pandemic, interuptions in the food supply highlighted the need for increased food soveriegnty and backyard gardens. Backyard gardeners bought seed in record breaking numbers, resulting in national seed shortage and prevented many people from growing their own food. It is more critical than ever to learn the basic methods of seed saving to ensure food access. Seed saving also lowers cost and allows growers to ensure their varieties are especially suited to their specific region and growing conditions.

In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of seed saving including terms, what can be saved by the backyard gardener, how to grow and harvest seed, seed viability, as well as processing and storage options.
