Grays Harbor 4-H Horse Council
Meeting Minutes for May 5, 2025
Call to order at 6:43 pm, pledges said.
In attendance
Jessica- Best of Times, Andrea- Country Pride, Rachel-Phantom Riders, Cheryl- Ridge Creek, Tracie- WSU Extension
Approval of Previous Minutes
Motion to approve previous minutes by Rachel, seconded by Cheryl. All in favor, motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Tracie gave the Treasurer’s report. Our ending balance is $4661.04. We had one charge for $1049.50 on account this past month from Crown Awards for the medals and Zembal Award. We will have upcoming deposits from the Hairy Horse Show.
Extension Report
Tracie gave the Extension Report. Summer Camp’s registration is well underway. Mason County’s new 4-H Coordinator started today, and her name is Falyn.
Upcoming Dates
Tracie went through the upcoming calendar.
General Council
General Council had one application for their 4-H scholarship this year.
Fun Activity
Brittany was not in attendance, so we played the ball toss and answer game. Andrea will bring the fun activity next month!
Old business
A: Small Equine Clinic Series- The first in the series has been held and the 4 youth in attendance passed. The next two will be May 14 and 28.
B: Trail Clinics- Scheduled for May 31st and June 10th. One will be here at the Fairgrounds and the other at Ridge Creek in Shelton.
C: Record Book Workshops- We talked about the recent record book workshops. Next year we would like to start earlier in the year and hold them once a month and make sure that all 4-H youth knew about this opportunity.
D: HHS & Prefair Event registrations- HHS registration is currently open online, and we have approximately 65 pre-registrations. We will open Prefair registration once HHS is complete.
E: Safety topics- Andrea introduced the new 4-H Equine first aid kit. This will be available to youth at all horse shows/Fair.
F: Budget/Fundraisers- Brittany is not in attendance to discuss. Rachel did let us know that the Horse Council was selected by Snowbird to recieve funds from their cider of the month program.
G: Judging Clinic Series- This series went well this year. The plan is to hold earlier in the season next year.
New Business
A: Horse Certificates- The youth from all clubs have turned in their horse certificates!
B: Hairy Horse Prep- Jessica asked that we have the trail and SMS score sheets printed for the judge. Ranie will be bringing her quad for us to use on Sunday for dragging.
*** For 2026 Jessica asked that we remove the scheduled break times from the premium forms so we can break as necessary.***
C: Fair Prep- Andrea will be working on the Fair Volunteer schedule this month. We reviewed the horse count with all clubs. Jessica informed the group that the Cobb family (owners of R&C Farms) will be donating hay for the youth to feed at fair!

Next meeting will be June 2, 6:30 PM. This is a mandatory meeting!
