Food Safety Modernization Act Info Session
June 15, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Location: Swede Hall,
18543 Albany St. SW, Rochester, WA
– No cost event –
Adopted in 2015, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is comprised of a set of regulations intended to protect public health
by strengthening the food safety system. Requirements include preventative controls, mandatory inspections and development of a
response plan to contain outbreaks.
What does it mean to me?
All food growers, producers and processors regardless of size must
comply with a set of rules established under FSMA, including:
- Preventative Controls for Human Food: Requires written plans that identify hazards, specify
the steps that will be put in place to minimize or prevent those hazards, identify monitoring
procedures and record monitoring results and specify what actions will be taken to correct
problems that arise (similar controls are required for animal food). - PCQI Requirement: There must be a Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) trained
by certified trainers. - Produce Safety Regulation: Establishes on-farm standards of conduct for the safe growing,
harvesting, packing and holding of fresh produce. - Employee Food Safety Training: Establishes requirement that all employees receive annual
food safety training.
When do I need to comply?
Generally, the compliance date for “small” businesses (<500 employees) is September 17, 2017.
For “very small” businesses (<$1 million revenue) the compliance date is September 17, 2018.
How can I achieve compliance?
This info session will describe FSMA and its associated rules in more detail, and discuss compliance strategies and options.
Who Should Attend?
