Cultivating community: Gardens that feed

Seeking to contribute to food security? Community Gardens bring people together to cultivate their own food. Washington State University Master Gardeners actively participate in numerous community gardens, imparting invaluable tips and techniques to boost yields and tackle pesky gardening challenges. These collaborative green spaces offer convenient access to wholesome, locally-grown produce, addressing food insecurity across the state while fostering a sense of community.

Catalyst Park Community Garden

The community garden at Catalyst Park consists of 24 raised beds that are rented out to members of the public every year. First-time community garden members are able to start in the spring, while returning members can apply to utilize their bed over winter and garden year-round.

A Demonstration in Itself!

While fulfilling the role of community garden, this space also serves as a demonstration garden component of Catalyst Park. We have many different styles of raised beds to try and showcase different options for everyone, depending on your preferences for style, material, and cost. Our examples include raised beds made out of:

  • Wood
  • Wood & cinder block
  • Cinder block
  • Galvanized sheet metal & wood
  • Galvanized stock tanks
  • ADA-accessible tables

Connie West Community Garden

Master Gardeners provide education and mentorship to the Connie West namesake community garden, managed by the Shorecrest Beach Club, which utilizes volunteers to grow and offer free produce to Shorecrest residents.

Harvest typically happens on Wednesday mornings throughout the growing season. For more information on how to get involved, please visit the Shorecrest Beach Club website.
