Essay Questions

Juniors: Create a 2 – 5 minute informative video or 250 word essay answering the question “What project did you bring to the fair this year and why? What is another species you might bring in the future and why? How do the two species compare in preparation?”
Intermediates & Seniors: Create a 3 – 6 minute informative video or submit a 500 Word Essay answering the question “What practices in livestock production could be easily misunderstood by someone unfamiliar with livestock?”

For horse exhibitors, this year we are registering using ShoWorks. Please download the handout below for additional information. The deadline is Friday, May 12th. (Note: You only need to upload 1 photo for each horse you are bringing. You do not need to upload one for every class)

Pre-Fair Schedule

Market Project Update:

The Market Sale committee will weigh the animals at fair check-in. This will be the official weight for the Market Sale. The market scale is certified to plus or minus 1%. In order to sell, market animals must meet the following requirements:

  • Beef:1000 pounds minimum, 2 lb daily rate of gain 
  • Sheep: 100 to 150 pounds, 0.4 lb daily rate of gain
  • Swine: 220 pounds to 300 pounds, 1 ½ lb daily rate of gain
  • Goat: 70 pounds minimum, 0.2 lb daily rate of gain
  • Chickens: Pen of three, same breed, 4 pounds each (purchased from Market Committee).
  • Turkeys: Single rooster Hen (min 15 pounds), or Tom (min 20 pounds) (purchased from Market Committee).
  • Ducks: Pen of three, same breed, 5 pounds (purchased from Market Committee)
  • Rabbits: Pen of three, same breed, same variety (color), 4-6  pounds each, no more than 12 weeks old. A meat pen consists of three of the same breed meat type rabbits of either sex. Exhibitors of Market Rabbit must own and have the dam or dams in their possession by May 1st of the current year. All rabbits must be fed and cared for by the exhibitor. Rabbits will be tagged on the designated date.
  • Note:  Animals that do not gain weight between weigh-in and fair or appear malnourished in any way will be disqualified.

This years fair theme is Stars & Stripes Plans are under way for a fantastic county fair. The volunteers that make up the Skamania County Fair Board are hard at work planning and preparing for this summer.

Required Entry Forms

These registration forms are for all Livestock & Small Animal Projects and replace the fair entry form, animal certificate, and green card previously required. All breed and market exhibitors need to fill these out for any animal projects they are bringing to fair. These are due by Saturday, May 28th. All submissions will be verified at the July Leader’s Council meeting and utilized by the Fair Superintendents for planning. No substitutions or additions will be allowed, and any concerns or emergencies should be discussed with fair superintendents prior to haul in.

*The activities listed above are scheduled and sponsored by the Fair Board and are not 4-H. Per the current guidelines established by the state, masks are required for all in door activities where youth are present, and strongly encouraged outdoors for those who aren’t vaccinated when distancing isn’t possible.

***COVID-19 Update: The Skamania County Fair Board voted on July 8, 2020 to cancel the Skamania County Fair. Below is a letter from the Fair Board President  regarding this decision and their plans for moving forward. More information will be shared as soon as possible!

The fair is put on by a group of dedicated volunteers who make up the Skamania County Fair Board in collaboration with the Skamania County Community Events and Recreation Department.
