Free Styrofoam Recycling Collection for Earth Day

Do you have Styrofoam occupying your home? Filling up garages, corners, and closets? Then bring your (clean) Styrofoam to our FREE collection event on Saturday, April 26th from 12pm to 2pm at the Carnegie building in downtown Snohomish.
Volunteers from the Snohomish County WSU Sustainable Community Stewards and Green Snohomish will be waiting in the parking lot at 105 Cedar Ave., Snohomish, WA 98290 to collect your Styrofoam. At the end of the event, the material will be trucked down to Styro Recycle in Kent.
Collection will take place from 12pm to 2pm. Be sure to check out the Green Snohomish Earth Day at the Carnegie building from 1pm to 4pm before or after you drop off your Styrofoam.

Styrofoam is an environmental hazard that cannot be traditionally recycled in your curbside bin or at material recovery facilities. Additionally, it’s a potential carcinogen and can become litter in local ecosystems. In western Washington, one of few places that publicly accepts Styrofoam for recycling is Styro Recycle in Kent. That’s quite a distance for many folks in Snohomish County to drive to recycle some Styrofoam. So, we hope to remove that barrier with our events.

After processing, Styro Recycle sends the material to manufacturers. They turn it into crown molding, picture frames, and other new objects.

Funded by Snohomish County Solid Waste and organized by WSU Snohomish County Extension Sustainable Community Stewards. For questions, email the coordinator Kellee Byard at kellee.byard@wsu.edu or call 425-357-6027
