Super Saturday Update!

April 26th is Super Saturday!  Organized by the Creative Arts Program and Esprit de Corps 4-H Club, this event gives all 4-H youth the opportunity to try new or favorite projects, at the fairgrounds in Monroe!

Sign up for Pizza lunch fundraiser, if you want!

Try out workshops in Creative Arts, Sewing, Gardening, Mechanical Science, Trains, Technology, Performing Arts, and Archery!  Pizza lunch will be available as a fundraiser for the Creative Arts program!

Grant Applications Due 4/30

Does your 4-H club or program need money for something?  Equipment?  A guest clinician?  Biosecurity supplies?

Whatever it is, you can apply for a grant from the 4-H Council!  The grants committee will review applications received by April 30th and select awardees the following month.

Celebrate Earth Week with Free Electronics Recycling Event

On Saturday, April 26, Snohomish County Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and Public Works are hosting a free electronics recycling event at the Evergreen State Fair Park’s Red Lot. Items will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (or when the truck is full).  Snohomish County is partnering with 3R Technology whose certifications ensure that all environmental and data security aspects are managed to the highest industry standards.  Nothing goes to the landfill, and your private information is securely destroyed, for your protection.

  • WHAT: Free electronics recycling event
  • WHEN: April 26, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. or until the truck is filled

Military Teen Adventure Camp – Registration is Open!

Teens aged 13-19 who are dependents of military active duty, guard, reserve, retired, and veteran personnel are invited to register for this unique 4-H affiliated experience.  Dr. Hall has won a grant to provide this camp experience for the fifth year!  Spread the word!  Stipends are provided for travel, and youth come from all over the country.

The goal this year is to welcome as many new youth to the camp as possible.

Styrofoam Recycling on Saturday

Bring your styrofoam to Carnegie Library in Snohomish for recycling, Saturday, 4/26, from noon to 2 p.m.  Details available on Facebook.

Train Show Money for Clubs and Programs!

Remember how hard you worked at the train show in February?  All that fundraising supports grants from the 4-H Council!

March 31st Enrollment Deadline

To be eligible to participate in the Evergreen State 4-H Fair as a youth and to get discounted fair passes as a 4-H adult volunteer, all youth and adult members must be enrolled by the end of March in 4-H Online.  Remember, you must re-enroll each year to maintain an active status.

Small Animal Show

The Greensleeves Spring Small Animal Show will be Saturday, March 29th , at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds Display Hall. This year we are adding Poultry Showmanship and a Round Robin Event in addition to our usual cavy and rabbit contests (showmanship, type, and educational opportunities)! Check out our Facebook Event and website for the show catalog. Entries need to be received by March 25th at 9pm!

Spring Small Animal Show!  Save the Date!

The Greensleeves Spring Small Animal Show will be Saturday, March 29th, at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds Display Hall. This year we are adding Poultry type in addition to our usual poultry, cavy, and rabbit contests (showmanship, type, costume, educational opportunities)!

Goat/Vet Science Clinic

To all goat and vet science youth:  Come learn about Embryo Transfers, detecting when your goats are in estrus, and some common birthing positions at our next goat program, county-wide educational clinic!  Tuesday, March 25th at 6:30, in the Longhouse at Evergreen State Fairgrounds.  Goat youth, please rsvp to Heather if you are going to make it!

Poultry Judging Contest

Held Saturday, March 29th from 12p (noon) – 2p in the Longhouse at ESF.

Youth who participate in at least two Judging contests receive a Pin award.

Youth who participate in at least two Judging contests will have their highest two scores aggregated.  The top two finishers in each age group (Junior, Intermediate, and Senior) will receive a trophy.

New this year– Youth who attend at least two county level events will receive a Poultry Patch.

All awards are handed out at the Poultry Award Ceremony at Fair.

Qualifying Events:

  • January 18th Clinic
  • March 29th Judging
  • June 18th Judging
  • Judging Contest during Fair (date still TBD)

Photography Workshops

  • Wednesday, March 26th
  • Low light/night Photography!
  • Virtual classroom portion, followed by experiential photography in downtown Snohomish.

Enroll by March 31st!

Only three more days to get enrolled in 4-H Online if you want to exhibit at fair (youth) or be eligible for those discounted volunteer fair passes (adults).

Youth enrollments need to be submitted by the 31st, but they won’t necessarily be approved by the 31st.  Don’t worry about that.  We always confirm with the club leader before approving enrollments.

Farmer Frog, which has hosted some of our 4-H Photography clinics, invites all 4-Hers to an open house and 12th birthday celebration for Farmer Frog’s oldest livestock guardian dog, Sirius.

Super Saturday!  Save the date!

Esprit de Corps and the Creative Arts Program are hosting a Super Saturday on April 26th at the fairgrounds.  This is a great opportunity to try out all sorts of 4-H projects you would not normally experience!

Total Lunar Eclipse Next Week

We are in a great location to see this infrequent total lunar eclipse!  If we are lucky enough to have a parting of the clouds, or even a clear sky on March 13th,  it will be quite the show!  More info in the WSU Insider.

4-H Council Meeting

All are welcome to join the next 4-H Council meeting on Wednesday, March 12th, at 7:00 p.m.  Revisions to the by-laws will be proposed.  Hybrid meeting.

WSU 4-H Scholarships

You’ve seen it in the Tuesday News, but here’s an extra reminder:  The deadline to apply for the WSU 4-H scholarship is tomorrow, March 15th.

Community Well-being Survey

Do you have a few minutes (5-ish) to help North Sound Accountable Community of Health understand what helps communities thrive, and what holds them back?  They have a survey that is a collaborative effort of public health, community organizations, healthcare, philanthropy, and more.  Please share your thoughts if you are able.

Conflict Series

Brand new, 3-part conflict training series premiers Saturday, March 29th at the fairgrounds!  See the schedule and sign up.  All 4-H adults, whether volunteers or not, are invited to attend.

10 a.m.  Conflict Theory

12 noon  Conflict Management

2 p.m.  Teaching youth to manage conflict

This training coincides with other events taking place at the fairgrounds.  Those who are not busy supporting those events are encouraged to attend!
