FREE Gardening Programs for children ages 4-12 years old
at Dirt Works Demonstration Garden in Yauger Park, Olympia
Join us for summer fun and hands-on learning in the Dirt Works Children’s Garden!
WSU Master Gardener & Master Recycler Composter volunteers teach children gardening and environmental science education through fun and creative activities. Young gardeners are introduced to the art and science of gardening while developing community service values.
Each program includes hands-on activities based on a different theme.
Example activities include:
- Tending and harvesting fruits and vegetables
- Playing garden games
- Storytime
- Take-home crafts
Activities are designed to promote a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the environment, and cultivate the mind.
The bounty raised from the garden will be donated to the Thurston County Food Bank.
2023 Program Schedule & Themes:
Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. to Noon
- August 22 – Garden Superheroes
- September 19 – Wonderful Worms
Parents or guardians must accompany children at all times.
Program Requirements:
-Participants must reside in Thurston County.
-Guardians or chaperones must accompany children at all times during the program.
-Required emergency contact form will be emailed upon registration. Emergency contact forms must be completed and returned prior to your class date**
To Register:
Programs are free but we ask that you please register so we can better prepare and serve you. Space is limited.
This program is designed for individuals, no large groups (i.e. day cares, youth groups, youth camps etc.)
Each child must be registered separately. Chaperones do not need to register for a spot. Chaperones just need to complete an emergency contact form for each child participating. Emergency contact form will be emailed to you after you register.
