Become a 4-H Volunteer

4-H Volunteer working with youth

Your timeknowledge and heart for youth could make a big difference in the quality of life in your community. Washington State University Extension will  provide you the support and training you’ll need along the way. You will be a valued partner in helping grow kids.

You may choose from a variety of leadership roles:

  • General Club Leader
  • Project Leader (responsible for leading the educational/activity component of projects within the club)
  • Activity Leader (responsible for leadership of various club activities including fund raising, record keeping, community service, etc.)
  • Resource Volunteer (assists with various 4-H events, fund raisers, etc., has no direct supervision of, or unsupervised access to, 4-H youth)
  • Administrative Volunteers (responsible for overall organization and leadership of general program areas, organization of county-wide events, etc.)

Adults interested in becoming volunteer leaders should contact the 4-H office to start the application and screening process. New 4-H clubs may be started anytime throughout the year.

Required WSU Volunteer Training: 

In addition to in-person training, reference and background checks, completing the following 4-H Volunteer e-learning online modules through Extension Foundation Campus is a requirement for WSU Volunteer Certification:

  • “Put the Child First” Volunteer Training
  • Washington 4-H Volunteer Orientation Modules
  • Washington State 4-H Financial Management Training
  • WSU EP 14 Protection and Safety of Minors Training
