4-H Clover Report

September 28th, 2017

Dear 4-H Members,

Only a couple more days until the new 4-H year & National 4-H WEEK!

Dates to know!

  • October 1st – NEW 4-H Year starts! 4HOnline will be open for re-enrollment.
  • October 1st – 7th – National 4-H Week! Join with 4-H members and alumni around the country in celebrating!
  • October 2nd (CORRECTED DATE) – 4-H Council Meeting 6:30pm Hegewald Center Stevenson, WA.  Nominations for Council President & Secretary Now Open
  • October 6th – 8th Stevenson Poultry Classic Open Poultry Show at the Skamania County Fairgrounds.
  • October 20th – 22nd 2017 WA State 4-H Forum  Make a Splash at the Great Wolf Lodge: two days of workshops, awards, speakers, and the event ends with the Washington State 4-H Council.
  • October 23rd 2018 4-H Youth in Action Award applications due.
  • October 26th – 29th – Snohomish County Shooting Sports Training
  • October 27th – 29th Northwest/Southwest District Teen Rally open for all teens 7th-12th grade! Build leadership skills & friendships with teens from 16 counties during The Curse of Island Lake.
  • October 27th – 29th Shooting Sports Leader Training put on by Oregon State University Extension.  In Canby, OR.  Contact the 4-H Office before registering.
  • October 28th – MANDATORY 4-H Financial Policy Training for Club Leaders at the Hegewald Center from 9:00am – 10:30am
  • October 28th -29th – Archery & Riflery Training 9-5 in Mt. Vernon, WA. For active volunteers only.  Find all the details at the online signup.
  • December 2nd – MANDATORY 4-H Financial Policy Training for Club Leaders alternative date.  Meeting at the Clark County WSU Extension Office from 9:00am – 10:30am.
  • December 3rd – Mandatory Livestock Meeting & Potluck at the Hegewald Center from 2 – 6 pm.

 

General Information for Volunteers

  • Take a couple of minutes and report your hours for August (including those unending hours during the Fair) here: http://ext.wsu.edu/Volunteers/logon.aspx.  Your username is your email and your password is “password!” without the quotation marks.
  • On October 2nd the 4-H Council will be holding elections for the President & Secretary Positions.  Nominations for both positions can be submitted to the 4-H Office up until 5:30pm on the 2nd & in person at the meeting.  Please be sure to attend and cast your vote!
  • 4HOnline will open for re-enrollment on October 1st!
  • All 4-H Club Leaders are required to attend a Financial Policy Training. We are offering two alternative dates of October 28th & December 3rd.

General Information for Members/Parents

  • On October 2nd the 4-H Council will be holding elections for the President & Secretary Positions.  Nominations for both positions can be submitted to the 4-H Office up to the night of the 2nd & in person at the meeting.  Please be sure to attend and cast your vote!
  • All Skamania County 4-H members are invited to take our 2017 Impact Survey online.  All survey responses are anonymous and completely voluntary.  Our goal is to gain a true understanding of our local 4-H program and we value your response!  You only have 3 more days to participate as they survey will close on October 1st!
  • There are some pretty awesome events for 4-H Teens throughout the year.  Start off by making some awesome friends at the Teen Rally’s around WA. For youth grades 7th – 12th.   http://extension.wsu.edu/4h/youth/camps/
  • There are several Awards for outstanding youth shared by National 4-H:
    4-H Youth in Action Awards (Due Oct 23rd)
    The Prudential Spirit Awards (Due Nov 7th)
  • International Travel with 4-H Exchange!  Travel to Korea, Costa Rica, Norway, and Japan in the summer of 2018.  4-H Teens (15-18) can participate, adult chaperones are needed too.  Contact Dianna Ullery (dianna.ullery@wsu.edu) for either a delegate or chaperone application.  Completed applications are due Dec. 1st.
  • Mandatory Livestock Meeting Date Released:  All Livestock Exhibitors participating in the Skamania County Fair are required to attend the meeting & potluck at the Hegewald Center from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm on December 3rd.
  • The Pre Fair Schedule for Market Projects has been released (subject to change).
  • Calling all Artists! Be part of the 2018 4-H Youth Artwork Calendar by submitting your artwork online by October 20th.
