Riparian fencing involves constructing fence along streams to limit or eliminate the access of cattle or other livestock to waterways. A buffer zone is created between grazing areas and stream. A riparian buffer zone may be 30 feet or more. The larger the buffer, the more benefits are gained. It is very beneficial to fish and wildlife habitat, riparian health and water quality.
Cross fencing can be used to manage animal access and grazing pressure on a particular area. It enables stock access to be managed according to need and available feed and provide a more efficient utilization of the pasture, resulting in healthier range conditions.
