Update on the 2021 Asotin County Fair
Oct 22, 2020
As everyone is aware, the COVID 19 Pandemic has certainly affected 4-H and FFA activities across the county, state and nation the past several months. On October 14th, 2020 the Asotin County Fair Board met and decided that they will be moving forward with plans for the 2021 Asotin County Fair. While everyone hopes that a traditional county fair will be possible next spring, the reality is that the future is unknown.
In the event that a traditional fair is not possible, the Fair Board is also exploring alternative formats for the 2021 fair. The recent survey conducted by the Fair Board indicated strong support for alternative fair formats if a “traditional” in-person fair is not possible in 2021. Alternative fair formats that were used by several county fairs in Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho this fall will be looked at as planning for the 2021 fair progresses. It is the hope that many of the youth-related fair events (Livestock and Horse shows, 4-H Still Life entries, Educational Demonstrations, Fashion Revue, Performing Arts, etc.) can occur in some format. The Asotin County Fair Livestock Sales Board has also indicated that they will do all that they can to provide a 4-H/FFA Livestock Sale, whether that is in-person, virtual, or a hybrid format.
The fair board and Extension Office will keep you updated as plans progress. The health and safety of community members, and the current COVID 19 restrictions and guidelines in place, will ultimately determine the status and format of the 2021 Asotin County Fair.
As a reminder, 4-H enrollment is now open from October 15 – November 30 for those youth that plan to participate in the 2021 Asotin County Fair. Enrollment scholarships are available. Please contact the WSU Asotin County Extension Office at (509) 243-2009 if you have any questions about 4-H enrollment or the 2021 Asotin County Fair.
