Become a 4-H Volunteer

Mason County 4-H provides many opportunities for adult volunteers to act as thoughtful, fun mentors to our youth!  Volunteering in the Mason County 4-H Youth Development Program is a privilege and requires the completion of a few simple steps.

Volunteer Interest Form

Unsure how to get started volunteering with 4-H? Request a Volunteer Interest Form from the 4-H office. Complete the form and return to your club leader, or 4-H Program Coordinator to discuss volunteer opportunities that might be a good fit for your areas of interest, experience and time commitment.

Steps to Volunteer with 4-H:

Returning volunteers need to enroll annually and pass a background check every 3 years. New volunteers will complete all of the following steps.

  1. Enroll in 4-H online as a volunteer. You must complete all required enrollment information online directly at 4HOnline. Step-by-step instructions can be found on our 4-H Enrollment Page.
  2. Complete the online Required Volunteer Training and send the completion certificates to the program coordinator:
    • Visit the eXtension website to login and view the “WSU Put the Child First” video
(the Mason County enrollment key is MASON4H)
    • Visit the eXtension website to login and complete “4-H Volunteer Orientation Modules
(the Mason County enrollment key is MASON)
    • Visit the eXtension website to login and complete “WSU EP14 Protection and Safety of Minors
(the Mason County enrollment key is EP14MA4H)
  3. Complete a background check. One will be sent to you from “Sterling Volunteers” only after the above steps are completed.
  4. Meet with us! The 4-H program coordinator will reach out to schedule a time for volunteer orientation, and if you are starting a new club we will provide a 4-H Club Kit.

Once you have completed these steps, we invite you to stay connected through the regularly scheduled 4-H Council leadership meetings, hosted via Zoom the second Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. wsu.zoom.us. These meetings will provide you with networking opportunities, a chance to ask questions and knowledge needed to achieve the 4-H motto, “To Make the Best Better.”
